PERIMETER SCREENS
BUBBLE
Quick screen to the slot receiver, using blockers on the perimeter to create space.
STRENGTH: Soft edge / numbers advantage
Key Blockers: WRs blocking DBs, Apex defender is targeted
SMOKE
Immediate throw to an outside receiver against off coverage.
STRENGTH: Cushion / off corner
Key Blockers: WR’s typically X block defensive backs
TUNNEL
Receiver takes a step upfield then comes back inside, following interior blockers.
STRENGTH: Aggressive corners / upfield DBs
Key Blockers: OL releasing inside, WRs sealing edge
JAILBREAK
A fast receiver screen with blockers immediately releasing in front, designed to get the ball to the perimeter and upfield quickly.
STRENGTH: Soft perimeter / off coverage / numbers advantage
Key Blockers: Outside WR blocks corner, Inside WRs climb to apex/safety
BACK SCREENS
SLIP
Running back delays before releasing, with OL letting rushers through and then releasing to block.
STRENGTH: Heavy pass rush
Key Blockers: OL releases to second level, Set up behind DL
SWING
RB immediately releases to the flat with blockers in front.
STRENGTH: Light box / space
Key Blockers: WRs or TE on perimeter
MISDIRECTION SCREENS
THROWBACK
QB rolls one direction, then throws back across the field to a receiver or back.
STRENGTH: Over-pursuit
Key Blockers: Backside OL / WRs
MIDDLE
Ball is thrown quickly over the middle after inviting pressure inside.
STRENGTH: Interior rush
Key Blockers: Interior OL
TE SCREENS
TE DELAY
Tight end delays and releases into the middle of the field with blockers in front.
STRENGTH: Aggressive DL / LBs
Key Blockers: OL releasing inside Interior space
